Helping curb the need for sweets…

Lately I’ve been having to fight the urge to eat sweet things, they’re the only thing that appeases me when I’m feeling sick.  I’ve been trying to get back in shape, and lose some weight.  My goal is to get back down to the size I was when I graduated from high school, if not better.

Last night I took a short break from doing my school reading to read this article on Christian Women Online.  It’s probably one of the more inspirational diet articles I’ve ever read.  It really nailed everything I’ve dealt with, right on the head.  Like, thinking its OK to treat myself to a sweet every day.  Especially the part about the first three days of a healthy plan being the hardest, that’s where I always faulter.

But the most significant thing for me in the entire article was the scripture she quoted:

At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.
So don’t sit around on your hands! No more dragging your feet! Clear the path for long-distance runners so no one will trip and fall, so no one will step in a hole and sprain an ankle. Help each other out. And run for it!
–Hebrews 12:11-12, The Message

That scripture now has a permanent place on my desktop, always reminding me to practice discipline, that the rewards will be great!  I’m running for it!

Or at least, in my case, biking for it!

I wrote that article. Thanks for the encouragement! I’m pressing on today too–we can do it! :)
