I don’t know about everyone else, but my family doesn’t exchange gifts on Christmas Day on a regular basis. For example, I celebrated with Jeff’s family last night, I’m having Christmas Lunch with my mom’s family tomorrow & opening gifts on the 27th. This unusual scheduling started when my parents split, and we had to divide our time between different groups of families. All that matters is the meaning of the celebration, Christ’s Birth, not the other gifts. There’s no way to trump the gift that Christ gave us, and you’d have to be pretty selfish and self-centered to try and do so.
Anyways, because my family celebrates off-the-norm, that gives me some extra time to get my gifts together! My mom’s family loves edible goodies. We weren’t just born with a sweet tooth, but chocolate-sweet teeth.
Here’s some of the last minute edible goodies I’m making for my family.
For my brother – Maple Bacon Fudge
Jeff’s having a hard time stomaching this idea. I’m crazy excited about trying this — I’m always the first to try something (sushi, thai milk tea, etc.) that ends up being a favorite of the family. Jeff still hasn’t been won over to sushi, but he drinks more thai milk tea than he does water.
We’re probably going to make the fudge the day before.
For my mom, aunt, & grandma – Canned Bubba Cakes
This is probably going to end up as a post later, because I plan to use a recipe given to me by some of my students. As my assistant teacher said, the cake smells just like brownies baking in the oven. It includes ingredients like sour cream, pudding, chocolate chips… its a very calorie heavy cake. My students didn’t can the cake, its a recipe for a bunt cake, but I have a feeling it will turn out great to be canned.
For the kids (aka dogs) – Ghirardelli’s White Chocolate Dipped Milkbone Cookies
I really am going all out when it comes to homemade christmas goodies… even the dogs are getting some! I researched the chocolate options for dogs, and they CAN have white chocolate (250lbs of white chocolate would start to show toxic signs in a 20lb dog.) Even better, the white chocolate I’m using (Ghirardelli’s) doesn’t have any coco butter… so it’s totally chocolate free!
After melting the chips, I’m going to dip half the cookie in the chocolate and then sprinkle red and green sugar crystals and sprinkles on the drying chocolate! I’m planing to make these tonight after the Christmas Eve service.
For My Poppy – Christmas Crack
I saw this as a feautured thing on Craftster… so easy, so cheap… I can’t wait to make it! I love the fact that I’m going to be able to go get Christmas tins dirt cheap after Christmas to display it in! My Poppy can’t have too much chocolate, so I know he’s going to like this alternative.
